Herr Rossi machte sich auf eine Reise durch Land und Zeit um das Glück zu suchen, das er nach vielen abenteuerlichen Wendungen fand. Sein italienischer Landsmann Simone Rossetti, ebenfalls Reisender und Multilinguist, suchte das Glück in der Musik. Mitte der 1990er gründete er in klassischer Rockbesetzung -Gesang, Gitarre, Keyboards, Bass, Drums in Mailand The Night Watch.
Der Name, ein Tribut an das gleichnamige Stück von King Crimson, zeigte in welche Richtung man sich orientierte: Klassischer Progressive Rock der 70er. Anleihen früher Genesis waren schon vorhanden aber auch deutliche Einflüsse des härteren Neo Prog der 80er. Glücklich wurde Simone mit dieser Band nicht. Nach nur einer Album-Veröffentlichung löste sie sich auf. Simone suchte neue Mitmusiker, kürzte den Namen in The Watch und startete in ein neues Abenteuer. Auf den ersten beiden Studioalben Ghost und Vacuum waren nun Trespass, Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot oder Selling England By The Pound aus jeder Note rauszuhören. Simone entdeckte dabei die verblüffende Ähnlichkeit seiner Stimme zu Peter Gabriels und man spielte live aus Vergnügen immer wieder reine Genesis Tribute Shows. Brot und Butter blieben aber ihre eigenen Kompositionen und Liveauftritte auf Prog-Festivals, die das Publikum, ob nun trotz oder wegen ihrer Nähe zum Original sei dahingestellt, begeisterten. Wir waren aber in den 2000er angelangt. Als junge, relativ unbekannte Prog-Band Clubkonzerte zu bekommen, war fast unmöglich. Das Problem hatte auch The Watch. Nun aber strahlte das Glück Simone aus unerwarteter Seite an. 2006 sollte eine der größten Bands aller Zeiten auf Comeback-Tour gehen: Genesis. Zur großen Enttäuschung vieler Fans, waren aber zwei Mitglieder der frühen Phase, Peter Gabriel und Steve Hackett, nicht dabei. Der Wunsch, die alten Klassiker wieder live zu hören, bekam aber dadurch eine erhöhte Nachfrage und Veranstalter erinnerten sich daran, dass The Watch eine verdammt gute Genesis Tribute Band ist. Nicht zuletzt finanziellen Zwängen folgend, begannen The Watch jetzt vermehrt Genesis Themen Shows zu spielen und erlangten in den letzten 20 Jahren den Ruf, eine der besten „Cover-Bands“ in der Live-Szene zu sein. Ihr eigenes Material haben sie in der ganzen Zeit nicht vernachlässigt und veröffentlichten in schöner Regelmäßigkeit weitere Studioalben mit eigenen Stücken, die sie live immer wieder auch mit in ihre Genesis-Shows einbauen.

English Version - Mr Rossi set off on a journey through country and time in search of happiness, which he found after many adventurous twists and turns. His Italian compatriot Simone Rossetti, also a traveller and multilingual, sought happiness in music. In the mid-1990s, he founded The Night Watch in Milan with a classic rock line-up - vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass and drums. The name, a tribute to the King Crimson song of the same name, indicated the direction the band was heading in: classic progressive rock of the 70s. There were already hints of early Genesis, but also clear influences from the harder neo-prog of the 80s. Simone was not happy with this band. After releasing only one album, it broke up. Simone looked for new bandmates, shortened the name to The Watch and embarked on a new adventure. On the first two studio albums, Ghost and Vacuum, Trespass, Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot and Selling England By The Pound could be heard in every note. Simone discovered the striking similarity of his voice to Peter Gabriel's, and for fun they repeatedly played pure Genesis tribute shows live. However, his bread and butter remained his own compositions and live performances at prog festivals, which thrilled audiences, whether despite or because of their proximity to the original. But we had reached the 2000s. As a young, relatively unknown prog band, it was almost impossible to get club gigs. The Watch had the same problem. But then luck smiled on Simone from an unexpected source. In 2006, one of the greatest bands of all time was going on a comeback tour: Genesis. To the great disappointment of many fans, however, two members from the early days, Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett, were not involved. This increased demand for the old classics to be heard live again, and promoters remembered that The Watch is a damn good Genesis tribute band. Not least due to financial constraints, The Watch began to play more Genesis-themed shows and, over the last 20 years, has gained a reputation as one of the best ‘cover bands’ on the live scene. They have not neglected their own material during this time and have released further studio albums with their own songs on a regular basis, which they repeatedly incorporate into their Genesis shows.
Versione italiana - Il signor Rossi intraprese un viaggio attraverso il paese e il tempo alla ricerca della felicità, che trovò dopo molte avventure. Il suo connazionale Simone Rossetti, anch'egli viaggiatore e poliglotta, cercò la felicità nella musica. A metà degli anni '90 fondò a Milano The Night Watch, con una formazione rock classica: voce, chitarra, tastiere, basso e batteria. Il nome, un omaggio al brano omonimo dei King Crimson, indicava la direzione intrapresa: il rock progressivo classico degli anni '70. Erano già presenti richiami ai primi Genesis, ma anche chiare influenze del neo prog più duro degli anni '80. Simone non era felice con questa band. Ma ormai eravamo arrivati agli anni 2000. Per una band prog giovane e relativamente sconosciuta era quasi impossibile ottenere concerti nei club. Anche The Watch aveva lo stesso problema. Ma poi la fortuna sorrise a Simone da una parte inaspettata. Nel 2006 una delle più grandi band di tutti i tempi avrebbe fatto un tour di ritorno: i Genesis. Con grande delusione di molti fan, però, due membri della formazione iniziale, Peter Gabriel e Steve Hackett, non erano della partita. Il desiderio di riascoltare dal vivo i vecchi classici ha fatto aumentare la domanda e gli organizzatori si sono ricordati che The Watch è un'ottima tribute band dei Genesis. Non da ultimo a causa delle difficoltà finanziarie, The Watch ha iniziato a suonare sempre più spesso in concerti a tema Genesis e negli ultimi 20 anni si è guadagnata la reputazione di una delle migliori “cover band” della scena live. Non hanno trascurato il proprio materiale durante tutto questo tempo e hanno pubblicato con regolarità altri album in studio con brani propri, che continuano a inserire nei loro concerti dedicati ai Genesis.
